Question 1

How do I check if there is a power cut in Medavakkam today?

Accepted Answer

Type "Medavakkam" (or PIN 600100) in the search box at the top of the livepowercut.com home page. You will instantly see whether your area has an active outage, how many neighbours are reporting it, the average outage duration for your locality, and a 30-day outage history. If power is out, tap "Light Gone" to add your report — it appears on the live map within seconds.

Question 2

Is livepowercut.com owned by the government or my electricity board?

Accepted Answer

No. livepowercut.com is an independent citizen platform. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or owned by the Government of India, any state government, ministry, DISCOM, or electricity board. The data shown here is crowd-sourced from users like you. For official complaints, call 1912 or your local DISCOM.

Question 3

How can I get an alert when power comes back?

Accepted Answer

Search your PIN code on the home page, tap "Save", then subscribe for free email alerts. The moment a neighbour reports "Power is Back" for your saved area, you will get an email. We do not send WhatsApp messages — email only, to keep things simple and free.

Question 4

What size inverter do I need for my home?

Accepted Answer

Use the free inverter + battery sizer on the Tools page. Enter your loads (LED lights, fans, TV, fridge, AC) and the hours of backup you need. We will calculate the exact VA, battery Ah, and rough cost — no upsell, no brand commission bias.

Question 5

Is livepowercut.com free?

Accepted Answer

Yes — completely free for every Indian, in every city, in every language. We will never charge citizens to report outages or receive power-back alerts. The site is supported by affiliate links to inverter/battery/solar brands.

Question 6

Why does the power go out so often in my area?

Accepted Answer

Power cuts in India happen for many reasons: grid load shedding during peak hours (7-10 PM), feeder faults, transformer failures, scheduled maintenance by your DISCOM, weather events, and infrastructure overload in rapidly-growing localities.
